Vein Disease
Procedures may include radiofrequency ablation, adhesive closure, phlebectomy or injection
therapies. Spider vein therapies are done by our registered nurse and are a minority of that we
see in this practice. A patient can present with a number of variables including painful
throbbing, varicose veins, skin discoloration, thickening or scarring of the skin and in severe
cases, ulceration. Some patients may have past history of deep or superficial vein thrombosis,
pelvic fullness or heaviness, or suspicion for compression syndromes which require expert
evaluation and/or treatment with a ProVas provider.
Varicose Veins
Varicose veins are twisted, enlarged veins. Any vein that is close to the skin's surface
(superficial) can become varicosed. Varicose veins most commonly affect the veins in the legs
because standing and walking increases the pressure in the veins of the lower body.
For some, varicose veins and spider veins — a common, mild variation of varicose veins — are
simply a cosmetic concern. But for many others, varicose veins can cause aching pain and
discomfort. Sometimes varicose veins lead to more-serious problems such as ulcers, blood
clots, and bleeding.
Additional risk factors are age, gender, pregnancy, family and medical history,
obesity, and lifestyle.
Spider Veins
Spider veins are damaged blood vessels just under your skin that look red, blue, or purple.
They’re usually harmless and typically don’t cause any symptoms. However, for some, spider veins
can cause burning, itching or discomfort (especially in your legs). ProVas offers various
treatments that can get rid of spider veins and help protect you from further complications,
such as
chronic venous insufficiency (CVI).
