Chronic Venous Insufficiency Treatments

How is Chronic Venous Insufficiency (CVI) treated?

CVI can be treated with various non invasive procedures

CVI is primarily diagnosed by physical examination. Methods to assist with diagnosis include:

  • Doppler, a handheld instrument that allows the provider to listen to blood flow
  • Venous duplex ultrasound exam, which provides an ultrasound image (a picture of the vein) to detect any blockage caused by blood clots or venous reflux. It is the most accurate and detailed method.

Chronic Venous Insufficiency (CVI) is treated at Peripheral Vascular Partners using various therapies including Ablation therapy, Sclerotherapy and VenaSeal therapy.

SCLEROTHERAPY

Sclerotherapy effectively treats varicose and spider veins. It’s often considered the treatment of choice for small varicose veins.

Sclerotherapy involves injecting a solution directly into the vein. The sclerotherapy solution causes the vein to scar, forcing blood to reroute through healthier veins. The collapsed vein is reabsorbed into local tissue and eventually fades.

After sclerotherapy, treated veins tend to fade within a few weeks, although occasionally it may take a month or more to see the full results. In some instances, several sclerotherapy treatments may be needed.

ABLATION THERAPY

Radiofrequency or Laser ablation are minimally-invasive venous insufficiency treatments that use energy to heat and damage the interior walls of the targeted veins, causing the veins to close and turn into scar tissue.  The body absorbs this tissue and the body naturally reroutes the blood through the deeper veins.

VENASEAL THERAPY

The VenaSeal system delivers a small amount of a specially formulated medical adhesive to seal — or close — the diseased vein, rerouting blood to nearby healthy veins, which provides symptom relief.
